A clear volumetry, which responds to its geometric adaptation to the plot, comes from the idea of developing the programme around a central courtyard, which brings lighting and space to the centre of the project. The central void arranges the fluid circulations around the courtyard, the heart of the building, and offers spaces that are propitious for rest and meeting, and crossed views of the interior spaces.
The project rescues the traditional architectural wisdom of Algeria and Oran, reinterpreting in a contemporary way elements of traditional Mediterranean architecture, such as the “musharabia”, in order to link the building to the culture of the place. The skin of the building is treated in a continuous way in order to give the building a strongly unitary and identifiable character. The facades work as long planes, which through a hierarchical composition, work on the different scales of perception.
